Job Description
What you’ll own
Own the storefront experience end to end. Front-end, product discovery, PDP, cart, checkout and the post-purchase flows behind them. You build it yourself, in Liquid and JavaScript, and you’re accountable for how it performs. Marketing owns the ad; everything after the click is yours.
Evaluate and validate technology before we commit to it. App versus custom build, one vendor versus another, integrate now versus wait. You run the trial or the proof of concept, test the claims against our actual data volumes and edge cases, and come back with a short written recommendation: options, pros and cons, cost, effort, risk, and what you’d do. We expect a clear call and the reasoning behind it, not a menu.
Integrate the stack and own it afterwards. Klaviyo, Judge.me, LTK, AvantLink, Shopify Collabs, TikTok Shop, Amazon. Ship the integration, monitor it, and know the exit path before you turn it on — including what data we’d lose and how hard it would be to leave.
Own the operations logic. Discount and bundle mechanics; pre-order and subscription rules; SKU and collection setup; order tagging and routing; inventory and fulfilment sync across Shopify, TikTok Shop and Amazon. When something breaks mid-campaign, you’re the one who finds it and fixes it.
Measure, experiment, and report in business terms. Conversion, load speed, checkout drop-off, tracking accuracy. You propose the change, build it, measure what it actually did, and write it up in language the Brand Director and CEO can act on — no jargon, and an honest result when the test comes back flat.
You’ll also set the priority order. Around ten inbound requests a month sit alongside your own roadmap. Judging what makes the cut by business impact rather than by who asked loudest, and explaining that clearly, is part of the role. Launches cluster, so some months are busier than others.
What we‘re looking for
Your track record — we‘d love to see links
• Live Shopify storefronts you built and maintained, ideally including one you looked after six months or more after launch.
• Custom Liquid theme work we can take a look at.
• One result you’re proud of — with a number attached. A conversion lift, a speed gain, a process you removed.
• A technology decision you made and would defend — what you chose, what you rejected, and why.
Core stack — what you‘ll use daily
• Shopify — 5+ years in e-commerce front-end, 2+ years hands-on Shopify. Online Store 2.0: sections, blocks, metafields, metaobjects.
• Liquid theme development — you’re comfortable working directly in the codebase.
• JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3 — vanilla and mobile-first. Our themes use native web components rather than React.
• Shopify App development and automation — Admin API (GraphQL/REST), Storefront API, webhooks, Shopify Flow, theme app extensions.
• Golang — backend services and integration middleware.
• CRO and A/B testing — you’ve run structured experiments, not just redesigns. You know what a fair test looks like and you’ll call a flat result flat.
• Tracking and measurement — Meta and Google pixels, Conversions API, server-side events, GA4. When attribution disagrees with reality, you’re the one who finds out why.
• Page speed — Core Web Vitals treated as a metric you own, not something you look at after launch.
• Nice to have: Shopify Plus, Functions or checkout extensibility · Klaviyo flows · subscription platforms · TikTok Shop or Amazon integrations.
How you work
This matters to us as much as the technical side. You’ll often be the bridge between tech, brand, marketing and operations — and frequently the only technical person in the conversation.
• Solution-oriented. Finds the way it works, or names what’s blocking.
• Supportive. An ally to the business, never a gatekeeper.
• Proactive. Raises issues early, follows through without needing reminders.
• Ownership. Accountable for outcomes, not just for assigned tasks.
• Business savvy. Knows margin, CAC, repeat rate; prioritises accordingly.
• Clear communication. Explains impact, cost and recommendation in plain language.
• Speaks layman. Translates technical detail without jargon or hedging.
• AI-assisted reporting. Uses AI for sharper reports, written faster.
• Honest about trade-offs. Offers options, flags the downside, then commits.
• Fast execution. Ships quickly, keeps momentum when launches get tight.
• On top of delivery. Knows every bug’s status before being asked.
• Design taste. Builds pages that look right without a designer.
• English at daily working level. Written specs, structured updates, everyday conversation.
What makes you stand out
None of these are required. They’re what makes an application easy to say yes to.
• You’ve built or scaled a Shopify DTC brand for the US market.
• You understand premium e-commerce expectations and US consumer behaviour — mobile-first, fast, and trustworthy at first glance.
• You’ve shipped subscription, bundle, upsell or retention mechanics and can say what worked.
• Competitive benchmarking is a habit for you, not a one-off exercise.
• You follow where e-commerce, digital marketing and consumer technology are heading, and bring ideas back.
• You have a genuine interest in beauty, wellness or longevity products.
Good to know
Two honest notes so there are no surprises. You’d be inheriting live stores with an existing theme and a backlog rather than starting from scratch — there’s plenty to improve, and you’d have the freedom to do it. And a good share of the job is talking with non-technical colleagues rather than heads-down coding.
If that sounds like your kind of role, we’d love to hear from you.
